I am 17 years old and I am mixed. my parents are Jamaican and white. My mother was white and growing up I don’t think she understood what she needed to do for my hair since it it was not like hers. So she treated my hair as an average “white girl hair.” since my hair is different it takes different care. I have been straightening it with a flat iron everyday for years. it is not healthy what so ever and is breaking really bad. I do not want to have to cut it any shorter than it is. But I need to stop straightening and and do something with my natural hair. I do not know what products to use or how to wear my hair. I need help! suggestions would be great!

What beautiful kids! It’s crazy how biracial couples are looked at so differently in different places, even within the US. I’m biracial, black mom & white dad, but we live in LA. I’ve never been ridiculed or whatever – it’s so normal to have all kinds of people here!

I’m a bit late to comment having just stumbled on this blog today. I had the honor of living accross the street from the author through his pre-school and early grade school years. He and his family are our best memories of that time.

My granddaughter is black/white and Jewish! She says she is Brown. We live in suburbs of NYC and she is a minority in her school. Planning to move to Florida where hopefully she will blend in.
